Mine Operator Dozer /Loader Experienced
They are searching for Mine Operators (Dozer/Loader) to support current Development Operations Team across the Andoom and East Weipa mines. The Development team are responsible for the removal of overburden and topsoil, exposing the bauxite ore, allowing the Mine Production teams to mine the ore ready for processing prior to shipment.
Rio Tinto Weipa is located 900km north-west of Cairns on the Gulf of Carpentaria and has been operating for over 50 years. Over the years, it has developed into a vibrant and diverse cultural hub of the Western Cape. Weipa offers a coastal community rich in geographical beauty and cultural heritage that provides families with opportunities to participate in leisure activities, sports and community events.
With a strong sense of community, the region has plenty of natural beauty to offer including the opportunities for boating, fishing, camping and exploring. Construction of the Amrun project, located 40 kilometers south west of Weipa, is currently underway to expand bauxite operations and continue production from one of the world’s premier bauxite deposits. This expansion will strengthen the economy and provide exciting opportunities for the people of Cape York and Queensland for future generations.
What the role entails
This role is a great opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to take the next step in their career working for a global mining company. Working with and reporting to the Crew Leader, you will be required to:
Safely and responsibly operate the following:
- Caterpillar 993K/992G loaders
- Caterpillar D10/D11 R & T dozers
- Complete vehicle inspections
- Assist in delineation of load and haul circuits
What you will need for this role
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated experience in operating either 993K/992G loaders or D10/D11 R & T dozers
- Experience in top soil push and stock piling techniques
- A high regard for health and safety work practices
It will also be beneficial if you have experience in operation of:
- CAT 785 C & D rear tippers

The Caterpillar 785 Haul Truck, Dump Truck or off-road truck as they are called in the U.S. are still used across the world in open-cut mining operations. This huge truck has proven it’s worth for many years and has often been the entry-level truck for new operators.
Progressing when competent, operators move up to the larger CAT 793 and CAT 797 truck, giving them the confidence and ability to handle larger load capacities on a range of challenging mine sites.
