Monadelphous, a leading Australian engineering group has won a $680 million contract in Western Australia, providing more WA jobs in the LNG sector.
The major construction contract centres around mechanical works at the Ichthys Project Onshore LNG Facilities in Darwin in the Northern Territory.
This new agreement is with JKC Australia LNG Pty Ltd (JKC), who are the lead contractor. The project is a joint venture between Japan’s JGC Corporation, Chiyoda Corporation, and KBR (Kellogg Brown & Root Pty Ltd).
This is yet another indication of the need for Asian countries to secure gas supplies for the future of�their industrial and commercial industries.
What is the Ichthys LNG Project?
The Ichthys LNG Project in the Norther Territory of Australia is a world-class development to access the Ichthys gas and condensate field in the Browse Basin. The location of the huge gas supply is about 220 kilometres off the north-west coast of Western Australia.
The Ichthys project is a joint venture between INPEX group companies, with major partner Total and the Australian subsidiaries of Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas making up the other investors.
The Ichthys project involves the piping of liquefied natural gas from the Browse Basin off the Kimberley coast, to Darwin for processing and export. Work will commence immediately and is expected to be completed by mid-2016.
