Skeptics who are constantly beating the drum about the Adani Carmichael mine never getting off the ground will be re-thinking their strategy this week.

Adani, the Indian power and energy conglomerate has placed a firm order or 55 Komatsu trucks for Carmichael mine to be used at the proposed Galilee Basin mega-mine. The A$16.5 billion Carmichael coal mine, situated in the north of Galilee Basin in central Queensland, Australia is step-by-step becoming a reality for Queenslanders.

The Carmichael coal mine is expected to produce 60 million tonnes of high quality thermal coal each year and generate thousands of permanent mining jobs for the region. Adani has also indicated the Carmichael mine will be made up of a mix of FIFO and a local workforce.

Komatsu Ltd. (President and CEO: Tetsuji Ohashi) (hereinafter “Komatsu”) has been awarded by Adani Mining Pty. Ltd. (CEO: Jeyakumar Janakaraj, COO: Samir Vora) (hereinafter “Adani Mining”) an order for a total of 55 units of 960E-2 and 930E-4SE super-large dump trucks for delivery from the second half of 2016 for use at its Carmichael coal mine in Queensland, Australia.

Soon, the world`s largest coal mine of the future will be supplied by Komatsu mining trucks

Under the agreement, Komatsu will deliver a total of 55 Komatsu dump trucks; the 960E-2 and 930E-4SE, scheduled for late 2016.

The Komatsu 960E-2K has a payload that ranges from 360 short imperial tons and up to 327 metric imperial tons. The front axle has a weight distribution that ranges from 123490 kg and up to 190104 kg, while its rear axle has a weight distribution that ranges from 125985 kg, and up to 385968 kg. That’s one big truck!

About the Adani Carmichael coal mine

The proposed Carmichael proposed thermal coal mine is going to be huge, with a focus on mining automation and autonomous operation of the mine, railway, and port.

The mine is expected to have an operating life of around 90 years and it is planned to extract four billion tonnes of coal using open-cut and underground mining methods

Adani awarded the contract to Korean project management and engineering company POSCO to build a huge 360+km rail line to the mine from Abbot Point; which will also connect into the existing Goonyella railway line.
