Mitchell Services (MSV) is a leading provider of drilling services to the global exploration, mining and energy industries. The Role

The role of the Driller is to recover an accurate core sample as per customer specifications, in a safe cost-effective manner, while upholding Mitchell Services Values, meeting operational performance targets, participating in safety initiatives, and adhering to company policies and procedures.

Due to continued growth within Queensland Energy division, they are now seeking applications from suitably qualified Drilling candidates to undertake a difficult drilling programs in the Bowen Basin.

About you

You will be an experienced coal driller with many years of drilling knowledge and a good understanding of the ground conditions in and around the Bowen Basin region.

You will be ready to accept the many difficult drilling challenges that occur on your rig. You will take pride in providing leadership and mentoring to your offsiders whilst operating your drill rig in a safe manner.


As the role is an immediate start, the Inherent requirements for this position are as follows.

  • Must have Coal Exploration experience /
  • HR licence mandatory (above desirable)
  • Certificate III Drilling Operations is a requirement
  • Standard 11 *Standard 11 Training* (Current)
  • Supervisor S123 Qualification (is highly desired)
  • Carry out the risk management process (G2) (is highly desired)
  • A current Provide First Aid / CPR (is highly desired)
  • A good level of physical fitness is an inherent requirement,
  • The ability to pass a functional assessment.
  • The ability to pass a pre-employment medical
  • The ability to pass drug & alcohol screening

The role will ideally be FIFO or DIDO Mackay and surrounds, you will be working on a 14 on 7 off roster with some Night shifts that may be required as per the client’s requirements.

The Bowen Basin contains the largest coal reserves in Australia. This major coal producing region contains one of the world’s largest deposits of bituminous coal.

The Basin contains much of the known Permian coal resources in Queensland including virtually all of the known mineable prime coking coal. It was named for the Bowen River, itself named after Queensland’s first Governor, Sir George Bowen.

The Bowen Basin covers an area of over 60,000 square kilometres in Central Queensland running from Collinsville to Theodore and is dotted with many coal mines operated by multiple mining companies.

Standard 11 Mining Induction

The Standard 11 is a course that provides skill and knowledge required for working in surface coal mines under the QLD Mining Inspectorate Recognised Standard 11.

If your job means you must access a Queensland coal mine site - you'll need a Standard 11.

The Standard 11 covers essential safety training designed to keep you and other workers safe from injury and harm when working on site.
