Dawson West Coal Project going ahead in Queensland’s Bowen Basin
We all know about the issues facing coal mines in Queensland as commodity prices are put under the squeeze of a high dollar and the slowing down of world economies.
News of how mining companies have been forced to rethink howthey manage their mining operations has affected many local communities. Despite coal being under pressure, there are signs of continuing development in this state as new deposits are found on a regular basis.
ASF Group associated company, Civil & Mining Resources Pty Ltd (CMR), is going forward with plans to develop the Dawson West project in Queensland’s coal-rich Bowen Basin.
“further studies to be carried out”
Earlier this month, the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines confirmed they had received and acceptedthe MDL paperwork from CMR, meaning the companycan carry out further studies on the resource to move the flagship project forward.
This involves furtherexploration, including feasibility studies; metallurgical testing; bulk sampling (trial pit); environmental and engineering studies.
“119m tonnes resource for Dawson West Coal Project”
The Dawson West Coal Project hasan inferred resource of 119 million tonnes and the company(CMR) has recently sunk an additional 15 boreholes on that project alone.
CMR’s major assets consist of 25 exploration permits, covering a total of13,500 square kilometres of rich, coal-bearing landcovering both the Galilee and Bowen Basins. All of these exploration areas are close to existing mines, therefore will most likely have infrastructure already in place and more coalresources in close proximity.
Obviously, iMINCO will be keeping a close eye on this project as it advances through the engineering, testing and environmental studies and comes closer to a construction date.
