Mining Officer – MI005 – Alice Springs (x3)

The Central Land Council (CLC) is a corporate Commonwealth entity established under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976. The CLC represents traditional landowners, native title holders and other Aboriginal people across the southern half of the Northern Territory – an area of almost 780,000 square kilometers. It is governed by 90 elected Aboriginal members and at least half of its 250 employees are Aboriginal.

The CLC provides its constituents with advice, advocacy and practical assistance to support their aspirations, manage their land and realize and protect their rights. It represents the interests of its constituents on a wide range of issues. It supports its constituents to drive positive change through sustainable development and successful community based initiatives. The CLC currently has opportunities in the following position for suitably qualified person:

MINING OFFICER – MI005 – Alice Springs

Classification: CL 5 – CL 6 (Commencing $69,070 progressing to $85,695) 3x Full-time positions

This position is responsible for managing applications for exploration and mining titles in the CLC region in the accordance with requirements of the ALRA (NT) Act 1976 and the NTA 1993. The successful candidate will review and assess proposals and plan for mineral and petroleum exploration and mining affecting Aboriginal people.

The successful candidate will have tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as resource or environmental management, geology, geography, social science or related discipline with proven professional competence to provide advice on environmental and technical matters. The candidate must have strong cross-cultural awareness, good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal people.

Total effective package includes: base salary, district allowance, superannuation, leave loading, relocation assistance, annual airfare allowance and salary packaging options.

Annual progression within the salary scale is subject to satisfactory performance. Progression is in accordance with annual increments set out in an enterprise agreement.
