Mine Engineer Job Mount Cuthbert Mine Northern QLD

Malaco Leichhardt Pty Ltd acquired the Leichhardt Project in 2013, located at the remote Mount Cuthbert Mine, near the township of Kajabbi, North West Queensland, and situated approx. 110km north east of Mount Isa.

Reporting to the Tech Services Superintendent, the Mine Engineer is part of the small but robust technical services team, who are committed to ensuring the most resourceful and best value for money solutions are delivered to back to the business to ensure they meet mining targets.

This “hands on” position is not for the faint-hearted.

You must love variety. Your time will be spent ensuring that the value of the operational open pit mining resources are optimized through accurate and timely planning, modelling, analysis and short term drill and blast planning.

You are a team player. You will possess a proactive and committed leadership approach to searching for solutions with a positive and “can do” attitude. You will be responsible for monitoring the performance outputs with corrective actions taken to minimize potential losses and manage geological and geotechnical risks.

Your highly developed interpersonal skills will mean you have the ability to communicate effectively across all levels and most importantly, you will influence and motivate others to ensure short and medium term planning, surveying and required activities are carried out to the highest standard

Your great SURPAC skills will ensure that blast designs are based on suitable geological, geotechnical and operational assessment of stability, risk and economics. You will be responsible your own administration and you will have the resolve to be self directed and work unsupervised.

To be successful you will need to have:

  • 3-5 years within an open pit, hard rock or metalliferous environment
  • Practical knowledge of short term planning, resource estimation and reconciliation techniques, applied geology, open pit mining equipment and methodology
  • Experience & competency using Trimble survey equipment ( ideal but not essential)
  • Have a strong commitment to safe working practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Extensive Surpac experience and blast software
  • Mining Engineering Degree or relevant qualifications
