This client is an industry leader, employing a wide range of skilled trades and individuals throughout the Bowen Basin. An opportunity is currently available for a multiple CAT Equipment Operators to join this client immediately on an ongoing contract in the Bowen Basin.
  • IMMEDIATE START, 7/7 Roster
  • Ongoing Role in Bowen Basin
  • FIFO from Townsville – $130.00 contribution fee

Your new role

Whether you are a Single or Multi Skilled Operator – THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU.
This position will see you operating a variety of CAT equipment on a coal mine site in the Bowen Basin – you will fly in and fly out from Townsville to Moranbah on an ongoing contract and a 7/7 Roster (Wednesday-Wednesday for DS & Thursday-Thursday for NS).

The client is currently seeking operators with experience on any of the following:

What you’ll need to succeed

You will be required to have extensive experience on AT LEAST one of the machinery listed above – multiple certifications / RII’s will be advantageous (although this is not essential). You also must have a Coal Board Medical (issued within the last 5 years), current machinery RII’s and a Standard 11 Induction Training or willing to obtain one if successful.

What you’ll get in return

You will be granted with an immediate start and an ongoing contract in the Bowen Basin – FIFO from Townsville.
Your Meals and Accommodation are provided at no extra cost and you will be working on a 7/7 Roster. There will also be no induction costs to you.

PLEASE NOTE – Flights are organized by the client and self funded with subsidy (You will make a $130.00 contribution to the return flight each fortnight – deducted from wages).

About the Bowen Basin mining region, Queensland.

The Queensland Bowen Basin contains the largest coal reserves in Australia. This major coal producing region contains one of the world’s largest deposits of bituminous coal.

The Basin contains much of the known Permian coal resources in Queensland including virtually all of the known mineable prime coking coal. It was named for the Bowen River, itself named after Queensland’s first Governor, Sir George Bowen.

The Bowen Basin covers a total area of over 60,000 square kilometres and is located in Central Queensland; running from Collinsville to Theodore. The entire region is home to many coal mines operated by multiple mining companies.

The Caterpillar 785 Haul Truck, Dump Truck or off-road truck as they are called in the U.S. are still used across the world in open-cut mining operations. This huge truck has proven it’s worth for many years and has often been the entry-level truck for new operators.

Progressing when competent, operators move up to the larger CAT 793 and CAT 797 truck, giving them the confidence and ability to handle larger load capacities on a range of challenging mine sites.

Caterpillar Haul truck 793

The 793F has a load cpacityof 226.8 ton (US) and a top speed of 60 kilometres an hour. It's a turbocharged air-to-air aftercooled diesel engine that has enhanced power management capability for maximum hauling performance. The C175-16 is a 16-cylinder, four-stroke design that uses long, effective power strokes for optimum efficiency.

The 793F, is an autonomous-driven truck. Over 100 793F trucks are now operating via Command for hauling, the Cat autonomous truck operations system, which is a part of Cat MineStar™

Komatsu 830E Haul Truck

The Komatsu 830E is an ultra class dump truck used in Australian open pit mining operations an is designed and built in Peoria, Illinois by Komatsu America Corporation (parent company is the Japanese held company Komatsu Ltd.

The Komatsu 830E is a beast, with 231,000 kilogram capacity (255 short tons). Although this is a big truck, the 830E's load capacity is about 66% the capacity of the Liebherr T 282C and Caterpillar 797B.

This is an electric truck and is being featured in many new mining operations as well established mines in WA and QLD.

The electric drive system is very different fromt the transmission/differential drive of traditional trucks. The diesel engine is connected to a GE traction alternator with high voltage cables transfering electricity to the two wheel motors at the rear of the truck.

Resources and Infrastructure Industry (RII)

Commonly refered to as Black Coal Competency (BCC), the RII competency is one that can be attained by an operator who has previously worked in the industry and has completed a number of operating hours on various types of machinery.

RII competency is granted to prove correct and safe operation of mine site machinery. It is a very useful qualification to have, as it confirms the operator has the required experience and expertise.
