Drillers, Trainee Drillers and Offsiders
Gas Field Services is a privately owned drilling company searching for enthusiastic and motivated people to join the team. GFS offers a wealth of opportunities for applicants whom are seeking a career within the drilling industry.
They are currently have drilling projects in both NSW and QLD, with opportunities for Drillers, Trainee Drillers, Licensed Water Bore Drillers and Driller’s Assistants. They are searching for candidates who are hardworking, reliable and have a proactive attitude towards their safety and the safety of others. The below positions are on offer in the Hunter Valley and the Bowen Basin.
Skills and experience Drillers:
- Available for an immediate start
- Applicable RII Certificates in Drilling Operations/ Oil and Gas
- Class 1or2 Water Bore License (Water Bore Drillers Only)
- Standard 11 Induction Training and Coal Board Medical – Preferred
- Exploration Drilling Experience (Diamond Core) – preferred
- Large Diameter Mud Rotary/ Hammer – preferred
- MC/HC Truck License – preferred. HR essential
- Demonstrated experience working in remote areas and on a roster
Trainee Drillers/ Driller’s Assistants:
- Available for immediate start
- Applicable RII Certificates in Drilling Operations/ Oil and Gas – Preferred
- Relevant Drilling Experience – Preferred but not essential.
- MC/HC/HR Truck License – Preferred (C Class essential)
- Standard 11 Induction Training and Coal Board Medical – Preferred
- Demonstrated experience working in remote areas and on a roster – Preferred

About the Bowen Basin mining region, Queensland.
The Queensland Bowen Basin contains the largest coal reserves in Australia. This major coal producing region contains one of the world’s largest deposits of bituminous coal.
The Basin contains much of the known Permian coal resources in Queensland including virtually all of the known mineable prime coking coal. It was named for the Bowen River, itself named after Queensland’s first Governor, Sir George Bowen.
The Bowen Basin covers a total area of over 60,000 square kilometres and is located in Central Queensland; running from Collinsville to Theodore. The entire region is home to many coal mines operated by multiple mining companies.

Resources and Infrastructure Industry (RII)
Commonly refered to as Black Coal Competency (BCC), the RII competency is one that can be attained by an operator who has previously worked in the industry and has completed a number of operating hours on various types of machinery.
RII competency is granted to prove correct and safe operation of mine site machinery. It is a very useful qualification to have, as it confirms the operator has the required experience and expertise.
