BHP Billiton JV Gippsland basin project gets a $520 million boost
The world`s largest diversified mining group BHP Billiton and an affiliate of energy major ExxonMobil have announced a joint investment of more than $1-billion in the Longford gas conditioning plant (LGCP), as part of the Gippsland basin joint venture, in Victoria. BHP said� that it would invest some $520-million in the project, while ExxonMobil affiliate Esso Australia would invest A$500-million for its share in the project.
Queensland coal mining jobs
The Queensland Resource Council (QRC) yesterday welcomed the release of an environmental-impact statement for the $10-billion Carmichael coal mine and rail project being developed by India`s Adani Mining. QRC CEO Michael Roche said that progress towards development of the Galilee basin as a major new economic powerhouse for Queensland was a welcome boost to confidence in otherwise testing times.
Fortescue’s Iron Bridge adds 2 billion tonnage to it’s operation
Iron ore major Fortescue Metals has added some two-billion tons of resource to its portfolio, taking the total resource estimate at its Iron Bridge project to 5.2 billion tons, grading 30.4% iron. The resource estimate included a maiden hematite resource of 90-million tons in the hematite oxide cap, which had the potential for early production opportunities, as it was at surface and materially softer than magnetite.
$110 million new coal train support facility for NSW
Asciano`s coal haulage division Pacific National Coal has opened a new $110 million train support facility in Greta, New South Wales. The new facility is designed to support Pacific National Coal`s existing coal haulage operations and increase efficiency as well as the capacity of the Hunter Valley Coal Chain, which often faces significant log jams.
