Huge CSG to LNG venture to go ahead

Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) “� a joint venture between China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec), Origin and ConocoPhillips – has gained environmental approval from the Federal Government for its coal seam gas (CSG) to LNG project in Queensland.

The project involves the development of APLNG`s CSG resources in the Surat and Bowen basins, building a 450 km transmission pipeline and construction of a multi-train LNG facility on Curtis Island, near Gladstone.

With the underpinning of Sinopec, a world-class energy company, along with the recent approval of the environmental impact statement by the Australian authorities, the project is expected to rapidly progress to sanction, with the first LNG cargo to be delivered in 2015.

LNG Mining Jobs

During the peak construction phase an estimated 5,000 direct jobs will be created with a further 1,000 long-term jobs resulting during the operational phase.� Purchasing goods and services and hiring locally, wherever viable, will increase expenditure in regional economies.

Opportunities will be provided for suppliers, contractors and employees alike across all regions of the Project development area.

A variety of employment opportunities will be made available

The gas fields and pipeline components of the Australia Pacific LNG Project will generate a peak workforce of approximately 3,000 workers during the development and construction phase and approximately 1,000 during the operational phase.

The LNG facility component of the Project will generate a peak workforce of approximately 2,100 workers during the construction phase.� A workforce of approximately 100 is estimated to be required to operate the first LNG train at the LNG facility, with approximately 75 further people required for each additional train.� Further people will be needed during major maintenance activities.

So, workers across a range of occupations including professionals, technicians, trades, managers, clerical and administrative roles will be needed.

Origin will recruit for gas fields and pipeline jobs and ConocoPhillips will recruit for LNG facility jobs.�

Bechtel Oil, Gas and Chemicals Inc has been retained as the lead project designer for the liquefication plan (LNG facility) and will be responsible for coordinating labour and supplier requirements for the construction phase.
