Billion dollar BHP Billiton and Exxon Mobil venture steams ahead.

Thousands of jobs in the resource sector could be created with blue chip mining big gun BHP Billiton Limited (ASX:BHP) moving ahead quickly with the approvals process for a $10 billion floating liquid natural gas project in Western Australia, with venture partner Exxon Mobil (New York Stock Exchange: XOM).

The companies will submit their proposals to the Australian Federal Environment department this week.

The LNG project, a joint venture between two of the biggest mining and resource companies in the world if you measure by resource capitalisation, is aiming to be the world`s largest floating LNG production facility. Early estimates are that the facility will product up to 7 million tonnes of natural gas a year.

The location for the massive project is the Carnarvon Basin in Western Australia, and as the project comes closer to production state, the number of resource jobs on offer for the well-established mining conglomerates will be in the thousands.
