Adani Carmichael mine power station revealed

Galilee Basin Adani Carmichael mine power station project revealed

Galilee Basin coal mine development – new power station forAdaniCarmichael mine

The Adani Carmichael mine in Queensland’s Galilee Basin has many people taking the ’glass half full’ or ‘glass half empty’ viewpoint on whether the mine will actually happen.

Controversy surrounds the entire project, ranging from the Queensland government’s commitment to help finance the project and the Federal government side-stepping remarks about the mine’s impact on the Great Barrier Reef.

Not forgetting Adani being under the spotlight from the Indian government about a $1 billion finance agreement from Indian banks to kick-start the mammoth Adani Carmichael mine.

So what does all of this mean to the ordinary Queenslander who simply wants to know, will there be any jobs at the Carmichael mine in the future.

“Thousands of construction jobs”

iMINCO has followed the development of the Adani Carmichael mine for over 3 years and we have seen many sides to the project. The biggest spin-off to Queensland is the amount of jobs in mining that will be created.

Thousands of construction jobs are tipped as the infrastructure is developed in line with the project milestones.

The railway link to the mine via the port of Abbot Point will be huge, with over 350 kilometres of rail track to be laid.

$US2.5 billion Carmichael rail line contract awarded

Contracts to the tune of over $2.5 billion have already been signed, with Korean engineering company POSCO taking control of the rail line project.

RCR Tomlinson pitch for Adani Carmichael mine power station construction contract

Another affirmation of the development of the mine is the announcement to the Australian Stock Exchange that Diversified Engineering and Infrastructure Company, RCR Tomlinson Ltd has been talking to Adani about building a power station for the Carmichael mine.

RCR announced that it has established Moray Power Pty Ltd, (“Moray Power”) to develop the power station.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding with Adani Mining, RCR has entered into talks with a view to working with the company to develop the resource.

In their ASX release, the company said Adani Mining Pty Ltd (“Adani Mining”) would be a foundation customer for the power station to provide approximately 150MWe of electricity to their Carmichael Mine development.

So despite what we may read of Indian politicians and Australian MP’s having very diverse and differing views on the new mine’s development, the signals are all there for the eventual push to start the project.

10,000 permanent mine jobs forecast

There are expectations of over 10,000 permanent mine jobs at the Adani Carmichael mine once the coal mine is in operation. In terms of exports of thermal coal, we hear figures of some 60 million tonnes exiting Australia via Abbot Point near the town of Bowen. All coal is headed straight for India where it will be used to fire the power stations for decades.

The long-term benefits to Queensland and workers are colossal. The Queensland government will rake in billions of dollars in royalties which we imagine would be used to build a better environment for all to live and work in.

Economic benefits for Queensland

Economic benefits to the region itself will be felt from the small businesses that will flourish because of the mine’s existence as well as a host of new enterprises that will develop because of a need for service industries to support the mine’s operation.
