Whitehaven Coal creates more NSW mine jobs at Vickery coal mine

Vickery coal project approval means NSW mine jobs

The NSW Department of Planning and Environment’s approval ofWhitehaven Coal`s Vickery coal project was welcomed by Whitehaven CEO Paul Flynn who called it a significant andpositive step for the company.

“This provides another growth option for the company following the development of Maules Creek,” he said.

“Whitehaven can now seek to form a joint venture for this long life development which will produce Maules Creek quality coal.”

Vickery, which is located north of the NSW town of Gunnedah, was acquired from Coal & Allied in 2010 and comprises several mining and exploration tenements.

“4.5 million tonnes initial output”

The project, which is approved for an initial 4.5 million tonnes output, has recoverable reserves of 204 million tonnes and is near Whitehaven’s existing infrastructure.

The Vickery project does notneed Federal Government approvals and should soon be producing NSW mine jobs.

A few months ago Whitehavenwas placing ads on mining jobs boards to find suitable workers for its $767 million Maules Creek project. Work has been ongoing at the site with over 50 per cent of the ground works completed and coal is expected to be finding its way to the coal terminals around the first quarter of 2015.

Activity is hotting up as Whitehaven start the process of awarding vital contracts to manage operations at the mine.

“Wenco International Mining Systems to handle fleet management”

Mining equipment fleet management is an integral part of the daily operations on a mine site, so choosing the right contractor is essential. Whitehaven Coal have chosen Wenco International Mining Systems to handle the entire fleet on-site.
