Wandoan Coal Project

Wandoan Coal Project

wandoan coalCovering approx. 32,000 hectares of exploration tenure to the west of the town of Wandoan, it is anticipated the proposed project will comprise an open-cut coal mine, a coal handling and preparation plant and support facilities.

With an expected mine life of over 30 years, the mine would produce thermal coal for export markets and possibly domestic markets.

XCQ is participating in a joint venture to investigate the construction of a new rail connection known as Surat Basin Rail, between Wandoan and the existing Moura-Gladstone line at Banana. XCQ is also working with QR Network regarding upgrades to its existing connections from Moura to Gladstone, and is co-ordinating with potential new port development at Wiggins Island and Balaclava Island.

Location

The Wandoan Coal Project is situated to the west of the Queensland town of Wandoan. The Wandoan township is located a few hundred metres off the Leichhardt Highway 66 kilometres north of Miles, 407 kilometres north-west of Brisbane, and 382 kilometres south-west of the Port of Gladstone.

Benefits

If the Wandoan Coal Project is developed, it will create many job opportunities. Some of these would be based in Wandoan, others on the railway line at the Port in Gladstone., throughout the Surat Basin and in other areas of south-east Queensland. Some jobs would be through direct employment with Xstrata Coal Queensland(XQC), while others would be through employment with one of the Project`s contractors or suppliers. There will also be locally-based apprenticeships and traineeships and opportunities for Tertiary scholarships and graduate employment.

      Hi John
You will need a Generic Induction to work on the mine site. From there I would suggest working on your resume so that it clearly brings out mining specific characteristics from your work on the farm

    Dear Sir/Madam,
I live at Lundavra between Westmar and Moonie. I am looking for work as a dump truck operator. I recently finished three months temporary casual contract with Acland coalmine on 785 & 789 Cats. I’m looking for work at the Wandoan, South-West Queensland Australia, coalmine.

This year I graduate from the Faculty of Mining and Geology at the University of Science and Technology in Cracow, Poland and I wish to apply for a graduate position.

During my studies at this renowned University (2nd place on ranking list of Technical Universities in Poland), I got sound theoretical knowledge in the area of mining and geology but also mathematics, mining machines, materials strength, usage of computer programmes, economy and business planning. It was backed by internships in mines where I got hands-on insight into practical aspects of mining.

I have also experienced hard work outside my field of study, during summer jobs in the US including Alaska which prepared me for different challenges and was an excellent school of independence, discipline and stress resilience so I am very much interested to get a graduate position.

I`m mobile and I have no preferences as to work location.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

    Sincerely,

    Adrian Szczepina
