About the role

Currently seeking applications for Trainee or Experienced Underground MCU Operators to work in Olympic Dam operations team. These positions are casual contract positions with potential for long term engagement.

Working underground on customer mine sites you will be operating equipment. An MCU is used to deliver and load explosive materials into blast holes underground. The roster for this position is 2 weeks on, 1 week off. For fatigue management reasons it is a requirement that you are based in Adelaide to be able to mobilize to there customers mine sites. Flights will be provided ex. Adelaide.

What you will be doing

The main purpose of this role will be to ensure a quality service in the manufacture and distribution of bulk explosives and shot firing services to our customers, in a safe and efficient and environmentally conscious manner.

What you bring

  • Previous underground mining experience  (i.e. Charging or mining operations)
  • Heavy rigid (HR) vehicle license
  • 1 year + operating an MCU or similar blast product delivery vehicle (advantageous)
  • Experience with electronic blasting systems (advantageous)
  • Strong customer orientation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Komatsu 830E Haul Truck

The Komatsu 830E is an ultra class dump truck used in Australian open pit mining operations an is designed and built in Peoria, Illinois by Komatsu America Corporation (parent company is the Japanese held company Komatsu Ltd.

The Komatsu 830E is a beast, with 231,000 kilogram capacity (255 short tons). Although this is a big truck, the 830E's load capacity is about 66% the capacity of the Liebherr T 282C and Caterpillar 797B.

This is an electric truck and is being featured in many new mining operations as well established mines in WA and QLD.

The electric drive system is very different fromt the transmission/differential drive of traditional trucks. The diesel engine is connected to a GE traction alternator with high voltage cables transfering electricity to the two wheel motors at the rear of the truck.
