There is one thing that is a huge pain for some employers in the Mining Industry. But… if you are sensible and have the ability to withhold yourself you can put yourself in front of other candidates. It is something very simple but you’ll be amazed how many issues there are in the industry. It is as simple as this:
Being sober for work!
Mining companies spend a good deal of time and money on some guys only to have them turn up for a shift after a night out and blow over the limit. It is something that is not accepted and IT”S INSTANT DISMISSAL….and the stupid thing is they know the rules.
They lose their high paying Mining Job straight away. No second chances and no excuses.
This sucks for the employee, but, take into account the employer who is REALLY put out. They have trained them, put their trust in them, now they need to find a new employee and sort out how to fill in their shifts until they find time to train someone else…all because some guy couldn`t control his alcohol.
If you can truthfully control your alcohol without question then mention it. It will go a long way on your cover letter. Even getting a drug screen test for the mines from a local provider…then the proof for future employers will be in black and white.
If you are interested in getting a drug test for the mines please supply me with your town and postcode in the comments below and I will contact you

What are the chances of me getting a job after that and what rosters tend to be offered adn are they FIFO, etc. I do not drink except occasionally socially – I am 58 and have a clean licence with masses of driving experience including large vehicles. I am an Aus Citizen. J

Anyone who has managed to secure a job in a mine and then blows it because of alcohol, needs an IQ test not a sobriety test. Is it possible to get a job through this web site? I have 41 years driving experience and am a professional driver with a Qld DA and a HR truck licence. My family is all grown up and I have no intention of having any more so certainly won’t be requiring maternal leave benefits. So what are my chances of being offered a position with your mining company?
-
Hi Annie
Go to http://www.iminco.net/form.htm and fill out the form so I have your details and can notify you of any upcoming positions. There will be an increase of jobs for women in the mining industry over the next few months. Check out this article http://iminco.net/women-in-mining/
