Mitchell Services are looking for competent SIS Coal Drillers to join their growing energy team to operate their SIS Rigs in the Bowen Basin region. In return they offer excellent remuneration and working conditions for the right people.

The Role :

The role of the SIS Coal Driller is to execute the hole plan in accordance with the customer’s specifications; in a safe cost-effective manner, while upholding Mitchell Services Values, meeting operational performance targets, participating in safety initiatives, and adhering to company policies and procedures.
Due to continued growth within their Queensland Energy division, they are now seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced SIS Coal Drilling candidates to undertake difficult drilling programs in the Bowen Basin area.

About you :

Experienced SIS coal driller with many years of drilling knowledge and a good understanding of the ground conditions in and around the Bowen Basin region.
Ready to accept the many difficult drilling challenges that occur on your rig (Gallagher / American Auger / Prime Rig). Take pride in providing leadership and mentoring your offsiders whilst operating your drill rig in a safe manner.
Good level of physical fitness with the ability to pass the MSV pre-employment medical including drug & alcohol screening and a functional assessment.
Able to provide a suitable National Police Clearance for site access.

Requirements :

The inherent requirements for this position are as follows.

  • Must have previous experience in SIS Drilling.
  • Previous experience operating Gallagher, American Auger and / or Prime Rigs is highly desirable.
  • HR licence mandatory, HC or MC is highly desirable
  • Well Control Certificate is highly desirable.
  • Certificate III Drilling Operations is a requirement

Site Specific Requirements :

  • A Standard 11 *Standard 11 Training* (Current)
  • Supervisor S1,2,3 Qualification (Now known as G1,G8,G9)
  • Carry out the risk management process (G2)
  • A current Provide First Aid / CPR
  • National Police Clearance

Please note :

The above site specific requirements have expiry dates and they can assist where required.
You will be working on a 14 on 14 off rotating roster or as per the client’s requirements.
You will ideally be DIDO from the Bowen Basin region or this role will be a FIFO from an agreed point of hire.

The Bowen Basin contains the largest coal reserves in Australia. This major coal producing region contains one of the world’s largest deposits of bituminous coal.

The Basin contains much of the known Permian coal resources in Queensland including virtually all of the known mineable prime coking coal. It was named for the Bowen River, itself named after Queensland’s first Governor, Sir George Bowen.

The Bowen Basin covers an area of over 60,000 square kilometres in Central Queensland running from Collinsville to Theodore and is dotted with many coal mines operated by multiple mining companies.

The 793F has a load cpacityof 226.8 ton (US) and a top speed of 60 kilometres an hour. It's a turbocharged air-to-air aftercooled diesel engine that has enhanced power management capability for maximum hauling performance. The C175-16 is a 16-cylinder, four-stroke design that uses long, effective power strokes for optimum efficiency.

The 793F, is an autonomous-driven truck. Over 100 793F trucks are now operating via Command for hauling, the Cat autonomous truck operations system, which is a part of Cat MineStar™

Resources and Infrastructure Industry (RII)

Commonly refered to as Black Coal Competency (BCC), the RII competency is one that can be attained by an operator who has previously worked in the industry and has completed a number of operating hours on various types of machinery.

RII competency is granted to prove correct and safe operation of mine site machinery. It is a very useful qualification to have, as it confirms the operator has the required experience and expertise.
