About the role

Reporting to the Planning and Engineering Manager, the Lead Mining Engineer will develop in conjunction with sites integrated mine plans and schedules, lead the mine planning for the Life of Asset Planning and 5 Year Plans, complete study work associated with open pit mining opportunities, work with exploration to prioritize targeting, assess new technology applications and lead the Resource and Reserve work program each year.

With responsibilities representing the business as the principal person in mining engineering activities at the Nickel West level you will have ample scope to demonstrate your commitment to delivering results and working in a collaborative manner, to add value to the overall business.

The role will work closely with other Lead roles in exploration, resource modelling, mineral processing, approvals and site based managers and superintendents.

About you

Preferred candidate will have demonstrated strong leadership and team orientation through strong communication, business acumen, effective contribution to multi-disciplinary teams and a high level of computer literacy. More specifically, we will be seeking the following experience:

• Tertiary qualifications in mining engineering
• Significant open pit mining
• Preferably underground mining
• Multiple ore types from a single mine
• Closure planning
• Study and/or Project Management
• Mine design and scheduling software (preferably Deswick)

A member of the BHP Billiton Group, Nickel West produces nickel in-concentrate and has its operations located throughout Western Australia – comprising mines, concentrators, a smelter and a refinery.

This role is based in Perth at City Square, located in the heart of the Perth CBD. The building itself reflects the latest thinking in corporate workplace design and facilities with the centerpiece of the development being a 45 storey tower which is home to the other BHP Billiton group of companies in Western Australia.

Nickel West’s Northern Operations encompasses our operations at Mt Keith, Cliffs and Leinster.

Nickel West Mt Keith

Nickel West Mt Keith is located 460 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie in the Northern Goldfields. Nickel West Mt Keith is a surface mining operation with an open pit and concentrator plant. The operation is surrounded by pastoral stations, with the nearest townships being Leinster and Wiluna. There’s plenty to keep you entertained in the Mt Keith Village. Take the heat off the day and head to the pool – or join in a game of footy. Employees commute to and from Perth on a fly in / fly out roster or form regional areas on a drive in / drive out roster.

Nickel West Leinster

Nickel West Leinster is located 375 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia. The operation sources nickel ore from the Rocky’s Reward Open Cut Mine, Perseverance Underground mine and Cliffs Underground Mine before crushing and processing to produce a concentrate. The Leinster Village and Township offer a unique lifestyle with all the modern conveniences – an Olympic size swimming pool, health and fitness centre, race-course and even an 18 hole golf course.

Nickel West Cliffs
Nickel West Cliffs is located approximately 12 kilometres south of Nickel West Mt Keith. Cliffs underground Nickel Mine is a sub-level open stoping operation down to a depth of approximately 700m. The close to 200 employees at Cliffs reside at the Mt Keith village.
