Peculiar Knob Iron Ore

Mining company WPG Resources is promising creation of 190 jobs as part of its Peculiar Knob iron ore project in South Australia.

Executive chairman Bob Duffin says mine production will begin early next year, subject to SA Government approval.

Up to four million tonnes of iron ore are expected to be exported annually from the open cut mine, about 90 kilometres south-east of Coober Pedy.

Mr Duffin says the ore will be shipped from its loading facility at Port Pirie.

“It’s a very exciting time for our company, a very exciting time for the region,” he said.

“It will generate a lot of jobs for that region south of Coober Pedy.

“It will generate jobs in Port Pirie itself and during the construction phase there will also be some jobs created.”
