Mt Owen Mine Jobs with Thiess

Leighton Holdings subsidiary Thiess has won a $1.015 billion contract extension to operate the Mt Owen coal mine in the upper Hunter Valley, NSW, until the end of 2015.

Thiess says it will operate seven mining fleets with annual material movements of around 8.5 million tonnes coal at Mt Owen, which is the company’s largest mine operation in NSW.

The agreement with mine owner Xstrata Coal starts in October 2011 and includes an option to extend by a further six months, Thiess said in a statement.

Mt Owen consists of multiple seams of coal dipping at angles between two and 45 degrees with mining carried out to a depth of 240m.

The mine will need more drillers, plant operators, truck drivers and safety officers. You will need a generic induction to work in NSW mines. We hold generic inductions in NSW each month
