The Opportunity

Due to the continued growth of Groote Eylandt operation, Black Cat Civil are interested in hearing from experienced Workshop Leading Hands, currently based in Cairns with extensive experience in heavy earth moving machinery, diagnostic skills and coordination of fitters work activities.

The role will work closely with Groote Eylandt management team, Fitters and Fleet Manager to deliver minimal downtime and interruption to the operation via effective scheduled servicing and breakdown repairs.

The role is based at Groote Eylandt, with the successful applicant mobilizing to site Monday morning and departing back to Cairns Thursday evening.

Key responsibilities include:

This newly formed position will be directly responsible for:

  • Maintaining maximum availability of plant.
  • Coordinating fitters daily activities
  • Liaising with the operations team to schedule required maintenance.
  • Procurement of parts and related items
  • Implement and maintain systems and procedures relating to the maintenance operations.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Intimate knowledge of civil earth moving equipment.
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Extensive experience in similar positions.
  • Solutions focused approach
  • Dynamic communicator with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Positive and proactive attitude.

Resources and Infrastructure Industry (RII)

Commonly refered to as Black Coal Competency (BCC), the RII competency is one that can be attained by an operator who has previously worked in the industry and has completed a number of operating hours on various types of machinery.

RII competency is granted to prove correct and safe operation of mine site machinery. It is a very useful qualification to have, as it confirms the operator has the required experience and expertise.
