Gina Rihehart to promote Australian mining awareness award
Gina Rinehart has launched a $50,000 yearly award for individuals willing to defend the Australian mining industry. In a surprise visit to the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (Amec) Awards, Rinehart said that the award was aimed at people who were prepared to stand up for the industry, promote it and work toward a better understanding of it.

Alpha mine jobs
Hancock Mining is recruiting workers for both construction and mining jobs after the Federal government approval of its $6.9 billion plans for the Alpha coal mine project, and port facilities Abbot Point linked by a rail line. Mine construction will begin mid-2013 with the first coal produced in 2015-16.

More ore for Queensland producers
Iron ore production has started at Xstrata Copper`s $300 million Mount Margaret Mining Operation in North West Queensland. Following the official start of mining activities last month, iron ore is now being trucked to Ernest Henry Mining for processing. Xstrata Copper purchased the Mount Margaret mining tenements in 2011 for $175 million and will invest a further $124 million in the operation over the next five years, creating mining job opportunities in the region.
