Most people without mine and resources specific skills are usually employed by contracting companies . Small Contractors will employ unskilled workers and train them only to be poached by larger companies.

Labour Hire employment is the most common type of entry into the mines for workers with skills. These employees work either for the Mining /Resource companies or the larger contractors usually at different rates of pay and are casual employees. They are subject to the same rules as permanent employees but don`t have the same benefits or protection.
