The Australian construction and mining equipment market grew by 17% in the first half of 2011 relative to the same period in 2010.
Data released by the Construction and Mining Equipment Industry Group (CMEIG) showed that hydraulic excavators rose 15.2%, wheel loaders were up 9.6% and rigid dump trucks increased 31.8%, while sales of articulated dump trucks dipped 3.3%.
Chief executive of CMEIG, John Reid, says the growth was shared unevenly between states with Queensland and Western Australia the drivers of this year`s growth. Victoria recorded a small gain in sales and the remaining states saw a drop in their figures.
