As of 1 January 2012 evidence of appropriate training and instruction is needed to ensure competency of an operator when plant is operated.

Who is responsible?

It is the duty of the person conducting the business or undertaking PCBU (person conducting a business or undertaking).

How can you demonstrate competency?

Evidence of appropriate training and instruction for the type of plant to be operated can include:

• a statement of attainment or other nationally recognised qualification
• training completed at an industry training school
• on the job training completed by an experienced competent person
• current relevant experience
