Ichthys GasFollowing substantial technical studies and with the support and encouragement of the Northern Territory Government, INPEX has announced that Blaydin Point in Middle Arm Peninsula in Darwin has been selected by the Ichthys Joint Venture as the location for a proposed LNG processing facility for gas from the Ichthys Gas Field.

INPEX estimates that more than US$20 billion in capital expenditure will be required to construct the onshore and offshore facilities needed for the project.

The first LNG shipment from Darwin is planned for late 2014 or early 2015. A final investment decision on the project is expected to be made early in 2010.

Location

The Ichthys Gas Field lies about 850 kilometres west-south-west of Darwin in the Timor Sea and is one of Australia`s largest undeveloped gas fields..
