Downer EDI, who are a major mining contractor has won a $70 million contract with Crocodile Gold Corp to help run the company’s gold mining operations.

Reports indicate this is a two year contract (with the option to extend for a third year) which is due to start in March 2014.

It’s thought Downer will provide underground mining services at Crocodile’s Cosmo Gold Mine. Crocodile Gold expects a reduction in the cost of underground mining with the Downer contract, in addition to increased flexibility and scalability.

Crocodile Gold also operates 3 other gold mines in Australia – the Fosterville Gold Mine and Stawell Gold Mine, both are located in Victoria. Crocodile Gold has also increased production guidance with 210,696 ounces of gold produced in 2013.

Downer jobs are highly sought after

Downer jobs are highly sought after, especially for experienced machinery operators who specialise in dump truck, excavators, loaders and underground machinery. The contract involves Downer being in charge of development, mining and additional works to maintain the supply-of-mill feed ore at the mine’s underground operations.
