Client is a progressive and multi-disciplinary company of consulting geoscientists and affiliated industry professionals specializing in mining and mineral resource exploration, geotechnical site investigation, mining geology, coal quality, resource analysis, geological modelling, research and development, coalbed methane, hydrogeology and environmental management.
PIT Geologist – Coal
They are seeking an experienced Pit Geologist in Operational Coal Mine Site conditions. Minimum 2 years experience with Coal drilling programs. The role is in Queensland’s Bowen Basin and is FIFO ex-Brisbane..
Core responsibilities would include:
- Pit drilling & geophysical Contractor management
- Geotechnical observation/dissemination of consultant geotechnical advice
- Coal recovery projects
- Delivery of Field mapping
- Routine reporting functions
- Feedback to operations
Skills and competencies
Required skills/competencies include:
- Must have industry based experience in operational mine site conditions (Coal)
- Quality Control experience
- Strong communication skills
- Candidates must have a current Standard 11 *Standard 11 Training* Generic Induction
- Tertiary Qualifications in Geology/Geoscience
- Valid Australian (Open) Driver’s License
- Current Coal Board Medical (including chest X-Ray)
- Coal mine supervisor competency Certificate (S1, S2, S3)
- Coal Mining Safety and Health Act qualifications QLD and NSW.

The Bowen Basin contains the largest coal reserves in Australia. This major coal producing region contains one of the world’s largest deposits of bituminous coal.
The Basin contains much of the known Permian coal resources in Queensland including virtually all of the known mineable prime coking coal. It was named for the Bowen River, itself named after Queensland’s first Governor, Sir George Bowen.
The Bowen Basin covers an area of over 60,000 square kilometres in Central Queensland running from Collinsville to Theodore and is dotted with many coal mines operated by multiple mining companies.
