Mackay area/Bowen Basin – 30,000 jobs

More than 30,000 new jobs are anticipated over the next six years to support 38 projects targeted for development in the Bowen Basin in Queensland.

The 38 new developments consist of 23 new coal mines and 12 coal seam gas projects as well as three mineral projects, in total generating more than five billion tonnes of resources over the next two decades.

Whilst 10,000 jobs have been directly identified with the mining industry, the Mackay Area Industry Network (MAIN) anticipates an additional two jobs for every one created.

Coal projects include BMA`s Caval Ridge coal mine, QCoal`s Byerwen coal mine, Macarthur Coal`s Codrilla mine and Hancock Prospecting`s Alpha Coal mine.  Coal seam gas projects include Australia Pacific LNG and Gladstone LNG.

Infrastructure and skills to be addressed

MAIN has rightly identified the need to urgently address infrastructure and skills issues in regional areas of Queensland.

There is a current debate on whether fly-in fly-out or residential arrangements is preferred.

      Hi Brierley
I just had Karen ask me the same question about how to go about getting a mining job driving a haul truck. You can read what I said in that one on this page: Mining Companies – Mining jobs driving haul trucks. It should give you some insights in how to go about preparing for a haul truck driving job. Also, I forgot to mention that from the feedback we get from people, having a good mining focused resume is very important if you want to get that all important interview. We’ve got a lot of mining resume tips on our website too – and there’s more resume tips for mining job applicants here – over 4o of them! Also you can call (07) 5520 2522 for more information on the haul truck training course in Brisbane, they get quite a few women doing the course too!
