Blast Hole Driller – Karara mine WA

Downer Mining provides open cut mining services at Karara mine, including drilling, blasting, loading, haulage and stockpile re handle. The operation is a conventional pit with a 30Mtpa mining rate. The Karara pit will feed the client-run processing plant, which will produce 8Mtpa of magnetite concentrate. The concentrate will be transported by rail to Geraldton for shipment.

Suitable candidates must have the following:

  • Previous blast hole drilling experience in Iron Ore
  • Previous experience with large diameter DTH and Rotary drilling methods
  • Demonstrated commitment to health and safety
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Previous operation of Bucyrus SKS, SKSS, SKL, Cat MD6420, Pit Viper and Cubex drills will be well regarded
  • Current manual C-class license essential, HR license would be advantageous

Located 40 minutes from Perth by plane, this project offers a 2:1 FIFO roster from Perth and DIDO from Geraldton. The site has a new camp offering modern unsuited rooms, with the latest modern amenities including sporting & recreational facilities.

Resources and Infrastructure Industry (RII)

Commonly refered to as Black Coal Competency (BCC), the RII competency is one that can be attained by an operator who has previously worked in the industry and has completed a number of operating hours on various types of machinery.

RII competency is granted to prove correct and safe operation of mine site machinery. It is a very useful qualification to have, as it confirms the operator has the required experience and expertise.
