About the Role
As Backhoe Operator you will be required to operate Council’s backhoe and undertake duties associated with road construction and maintenance activities.
You will hold a current NSW Class C Driver’s licence, as a minimum, have experience operating backhoes, and knowledge and experience in basic mechanical and maintenance principles of plant. Experience working in the road maintenance and construction industry are also key requirements.
- Ensure backhoe is operated and maintained in accordance with correct procedures at all times (particularly emphasising ‘daily checks’ and general cleanliness of machinery)
- To ensure a high level of communication and cooperativeness is maintained both inside and outside of the work teams
- To provide labour for gang on job site when not operating the backhoe as and when required
- Experience in operating small plant used in the construction industry
- Experience operating a backhoe
- Knowledge and experience of road construction and maintenance principles.

Resources and Infrastructure Industry (RII)
Commonly refered to as Black Coal Competency (BCC), the RII competency is one that can be attained by an operator who has previously worked in the industry and has completed a number of operating hours on various types of machinery.
RII competency is granted to prove correct and safe operation of mine site machinery. It is a very useful qualification to have, as it confirms the operator has the required experience and expertise.
