The Opportunity

Manage the mine process plant scope of the project including the development of mining related infrastructure, ROM & Primary Crushing Facilities, Coarse Ore Stockpile (COS), Secondary Crushing & Screening plant, stockyard, a train loadout facility & overarching plant utilities and control systems and also assist with high level project strategies & planning.

What the role entails

This role is a great opportunity to lead the project management of the mine process plant area from study phase through to implementation & handover as well as take accountability for all aspects of the delivery of this area of the Project inclusive of initial feasibility study development of innovation options, ongoing design management (of the EPCM and EPC contractors) & contractor management during the implementation phase. Reporting to the General Manager

Projects, you will be:

  • Ensuring adequate scope definition of the area is carried out during the feasibility study stage and managing the overall design development of the area in conjunction with EPCM and/or EPC teams
  • Developing the schedule & cost controls requirements as well as encouraging the use and implementation of new technologies such as data analytics, advanced control systems and automation
  • Managing deliverable through an integrated data model from study to implementation and final handover stages whilst also monitoring the overall progress of the process plant area
  • Communicating and managing relationships with key partners within and external to the G&I group as well as ensuring the completion of all necessary business reporting
  • Ensuring that all risks are understood and are mitigated utilizing the appropriate compliance means and that business is always conducted with the highest levels of integrity
  • Identifying and supporting the development of capabilities to facilitate and leverage the transfer of technical knowledge across the Rio Tinto Group

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor Degree qualification in Engineering as well as more than 15 years of relevant experience in Project Management of similar size and complexity of scope
  • An in depth understanding of engineering and construction processes relevant to the mining sector
  • Previous demonstrated success in bringing together different people and viewpoints in a seamless and productive fashion within a similar large scale mega project
  • A passion to challenge the norm and achieve operational excellence through the application of new technologies and innovation
  • Demonstrated previous success leading and achieving an injury free workplace, instilling a strong safety culture and delivering similar large scale mega projects on time and on budget

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Operational experience, project planning and implementation and / or extensive engineering consulting experience as well as the ability to affect change in a sustainable manner
  • Be able to lead knowledge sharing forums such as group wide discipline Work Groups or communities of Practice
