Alpha Coal Project
This major project has as its centrepiece the development of an extensive thermal coal deposit in Queensland`s Galilee Basin.
From the four principal coal seams, two main seams will be targeted within the first 30 years of mining. Draglines, dozers, conveyors, shovels and trucks will be used to expose these seams for the duration of the mine. Shovels and dump trucks will be used to extract the coal from the open-cut mine and deliver it to the Coal Processing Plant.
Infrastructure will include the construction of approximately 500km of rail, port facilities, mine infrastructure, process plant, a commercial airstrip and workforce village.
The coal precinct will be located in the Alpha region of the Galilee Basin, rail link from the mine to the preferred port location of Abbots Point, north of Bowen in Queensland.
- Project cost in the order of A$7.5 billion
- 500km of rail to be constructed
- Port re-development at Abbots Point
- 1600 jobs
- Mine life of 30+ years
