Railway jobs at Adani

Pre-construction for the central Queensland thermal coal mine is expected to commence in the September this year. Adani has made it clear to iMINCO that 4000 workers would be required for the construction phase of the 360km + rail line alone.

Arrium Steel supplies railway lines

It’s estimated it will cost around $150 million for materials and construction of the rail line. $74 million has been the estimated cost for 54,000 tonnes of railway tracks supplied by Arrium Steel, Whyalla, South Australia; although recent news suggests Arrium will source steel for the tracks from Asia.

Recently, Arrium have been making headlines in the news because of their dire financial situation, which seems to have been alleviated by the awarding of the Adani contract.

Railway sleepers by Austrak

$82 million for concrete rail sleepers for the 388-kms standard gauge rail link between the mine and Abbot Point. Local jobs will be created  with Austrak, Rockhampton contracted to supply the thousands of rail sleepers required.

Austrak is heavily involved in railway sleeper design, sleeper supply, factory technology and technology licensing.

For those looking to work on the development of the rail line,  AECOM has been flagged as the company to build the rail link to the Abbot Point coal terminal. As a bonus, AECOM will employ about 70 people in Townsville  to work on the project.

Construction jobs at Adani

When the main construction starts, there could be around 3500 jobs for a wide range of construction tradespeople and labourers. The Townsville headquarters of Adani are expected to house 500 people over the coming weeks. There’s a lot of jobs at Adani scheduled to be filled bu locals, which is good news for the community.

Nick Loukas, from the Cairns Chamber of Commerce president, has expressed confidence the Carmichael coal mine would provide jobs for Far Northerners. “There’s been a downturn in mining employment, so hopefully we see some FIFO opportunities here,” he said per The Cairns Post.

Downer Group to build and operate the mine

Downer Group, who were initially reported to have been awarded the Adani contract to build and operate the mine back in 2016, has now secured the $2.6 billion contract.

Based on a report by PwC, the project would create over 8200 jobs in the development phase and 11,830 in operation.

$22 billion in revenue for Queensland government

The report also said the Adani Carmichael mine project would generate $22 billion in state tax revenue for the Queensland government. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the recent progress of the Adani Galilee Basin Carmichael coal mine was a vote of confidence; and the QLD economy must continue to grow and mining jobs for Queenslanders would be generated.

Adani Australia chief executive Jeyakumar Janakaraj supported Adani’s statement, saying their Carmichael mine project is rolling along and was the largest single investment by an Indian corporation in Australia.

Adani has confirmed agreements for design, construction, operations, supply of materials and professional services as the project begins.
